Rayagada: Under fire from various quarters for improper healthcare delivery system and logistics management, Odisha government launched ‘Quick Responder’ – an ambulance on a motorcycle to provide service in inaccessible areas of Rayagada district.

RDC (Southern Range) T Apang flagged off the ambulance service yesterday at a function held here.

“Infant and maternal mortality rate was significantly high in the tribal-dominated district. We had resolved to bring it down by half. We have been able to set an example,” T Apang said.

The concerted efforts of District Collector Guha Punam Tapas Kumar, health officials, ASHA and Anganwadi workers have yielded results. I hope the good work to be continued in future too, he added.

Two bike ambulances of Rs 3.71 lakh have been procured and pressed into service.

As per official sources, one vehicle each will be station at Kalyansinghpur and Rayagada blocks.

Among others, MPs N Bhaskar Rao and Jhinna Hikaka were present on the occasion.
