The bhoomi puja for the construction work of the new sulphuric acid plant of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was performed at the existing Coal Chemicals Department Project on Saturday.
GS Prasad, CEO, RSP, V Sankaranarayanan, GM In-charge (Works), and many senior officers of RSP and representatives of M/s Vimal Organics Limited, the principal contractor for the project, were present on the occasion.
The new acid plant will have a production capacity of 125 tonnes per day. Sulphuric acid is required in RSP for various purposes including fixation of ammonia from Coke Oven Gas in the form of Ammonium Sulphate, pickling in Cold Rolling Mills and Water treatment in Captive Power Plant (CPP-I).
The existing sulphuric acid plant has outlived its life. The new sulphuric acid plant will cater to the requirements of the new Coke Oven Battery # 6 and Cold Rolling Mill. The new unit will also have state-of-the-art pollution control equipment.
