Bhubaneswar, Nov 7:
A battery-operated car was added to the existing fleet of vehicles for passenger amenity to ferry physically challenged and senior citizens at the main railway station in Odisha capital.
The four-wheeler will be used to cater only the differently abled and old aged passengers from the entrance of the railway station at platform no.1 free of cost.
“We find it difficult to reach the platform to board a train and walk quite a distance after getting down from the train. The rush in the platforms also makes it difficult to exit from the station. The battery cars would certainly help disabled and senior citizens like us,” an elderly person said.
Notably, the passengers need to contact at 9937099911 well in advance of their arrival at the station to make the service available at the desired place on time.
Under the policy formulated by the Railway ministry, the service is free of cost and the private player will not charge any money either from the passengers or the Railways. It will be ensured that the vehicle caters only to the physically challenged and elderly. To help private player earn some revenue, Railways will allow operators to advertise on the vehicles. Railways will allow free-of-cost electricity to charge the vehicle.
