Puri, Aug 22
In protest against the gross apathy of the state government towards their demands for a hike in salary and regularisation of services, 1450 Ayush doctors have decided to wear black badges from August 27.
Briefing newsmen here yesterday, general secretary of the State Ayush Doctors’ Association Tapan Kumar Das said these doctors appointed on contract for the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and working in remote villages under hazardous conditions are paid a very low salary, which is less than that of the junior engineers and accountants working under the NHRM.
While pharmacists and other healthcare support staff in other states are getting salary ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per month, Ayush doctors in Odisha are being paid a meagre salary of Rs 12,000, he rued.
Das said though the state government had constituted a three-member committee in May this year to look into the grievances of the Ayush doctors and give its report at the earliest, it is yet to give the report.
