Jeypore (Koraput), Apr 15:
While the police are on the lookout for the assailants who had launched a murderous attack on the relatives of senior Odisha Congress leader and former Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati late on April 10 night, the ruling BJD, aware of the growing resentment of the people, is contemplating expulsion of its youth leader and president of Koraput district youth wing from the party for his alleged involvement in the attack.
Talking to OST, sitting Koraput MP and district BJD president Jayaram Pangi made it clear that the BJD youth president Kuni Adhikari would be expelled from the party if his involvement in the incident is proved during the investigation.
“The BJD is strongly opposed to any form of violence under any circumstances. It has strongly condemned the incident that took place on the night of April 10. The police have alleged the involvement of Adhikari in the case. If the allegation is found to be true, the party would take stern action against him”, Pangi said.
Meanwhile, the police have been facing difficulties in tracing the culprits, who have switched off their mobile phones before going underground.
According to Jeypore SDPO Rajendra Senapati, there has been no trace of the accused despite a series of raids in and around Jeypore.
“The police have also grilled some local BJD leaders to ascertain the whereabouts of the culprits”, he added.
Meanwhile, the condition of Bahinipati’s brother Tuna Bahinipati and nephew Gupta Prasad Mohapatra, who are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam, is stated to be stable.
