Bhubaneswar, Feb 27:
The state BJP today demanded the arrest of all the persons involved in facilitating Deepak Gupta, prime accused in Rs 18,000 crore Uliburu mining scam, to enjoy ‘royal comfort’ in a hotel for nearly four of the five months that he was supposed to be in jail.
“The persons involved in facilitating Gupta to enjoy royal comfort in a hotel should be arrested immediately. The culprits have even tampered with evidence by deleting the CCTV footage from the hotel,” said chief spokesperson of state BJP Suresh Pujari here, today.
Targeting the state government, Pujari said the accused have deleted the footage to save the ruling party leaders, who had visited the hotel to meet Gupta, from being ‘caught on camera’.
He also asked the government to reveal the names of doctors and police officials, who have assisted Gupta at the behest of ministers who are hand in glove with the Uliburu scam accused .
Gupta, who was arrested on September 10 last year and sent to jail after his bail plea was rejected in the multi-crore mining scam, had managed to skip the major part of his stint in jail, by moving from one hospital to another on health grounds.
He was apparently treated for a number of ailments but allegedly spent most of his time in a hotel in Mangalabag area in Cuttack while he was supposed to be an indoor patient at the SCB Medical College and Hospital.
