From 2015 October to January 2016, in just four months time 9,068 persons have lost their driving licence due to violation of traffic rules in Odisha.
This information was given in the state road safety council meeting which was held in the state secretariat yesterday.
Also, Rs 165.97 crore has been collected as fine money from those violating the traffic light signals, during this period.
The meeting was headed by Odisha commerce and transport, minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi.
“ The state road safety council has been created under the directive of the Supreme Court. The major accident prone areas will be marked and steps will be taken to mitigate the problem,” Majhi said.
Twenty three areas in the National Highway and thirteen places in the state highways have been identified as accident proneareas, he added.
