Anita Behera of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was today elected unopposed as the Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Her name as the party candidate was earlier announced by Rural Development minister Bikram Keshari Arukh in Cuttack after it was duly approved by party president Naveen Patnaik.
No other party fielded a candidate against her as the ruling party has an absolute majority (36) in the 59-ward CMC.
In Baripada, BJD’s Babita Das was also elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the Baripada Municipality. Babita, who was elected from ward number 25 as a Councillor on a BJD ticket, was the lone candidate to file nomination for the post.
The BJD has a steamrolling majority of 21 in the 28-ward Baripada Municipality.
