Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Amit Shah arrived in Odisha late last night on a 3-day visit to the state for ‘Mo Booth Sabuthu Majboot’ programme to strengthen the party base in the state.

Shah was warmly received at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here by Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram and other party leaders of the state.

He then went to the state guest house where he spent the night and headed towards Ganjam this morning for party programmes.

Shah had a brief halt at Khordha on the way to Ganjam and paid floral tributes to the great warriors of Paika Rebellion who fought against the East India Company’s rule in Odisha in 1817.

“The great “Paik Rebellion” in 1817 was led by Bakshi Jagabandhu “Paika Bakshi” projecting Lord Jagannath as the symbol of Odia unity,” Shah tweeted.

“When the East India Company started tinkering with the revenue system in 1803, the farming community of Odisha rose in rebellion,” he said in another tweet.
