In a bid to provide houses at affordable prices in the state capital, Odisha government has decided to construct 10 new housing projects for people belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

As per the decision, 10 slums will be evicted soon to construct the new projects in the city. The projects will be carried out on PPP mode.

Both Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) have started working together in the projects, official sources said.

The houses will be constructed soon in the state capital. The preparation for construction of 5000 houses has already been completed.

Besides, for the first time the Public Private Community Participation (PPCP) model is being prepared for providing affordable houses in the state. The model will be finalised very soon, said a senior BDA official.

On the other hand, the BDA has been assigned for the construction of 5722 houses under six housing projects in the city, out of which 1200 EWS houses will be constructed under Nilamadhav Abaas yojana, the slum dwellers at Shantinagar in Bhubaneswar town centre district of smart city will be rehabilitated under Shantinagar Abaas yojana. Around 1300 EWS houses will be constructed in area of 19.395 acre, he said.

Similarly, total 2600 EWS houses will be constructed in area of 20.11 acre on PPP mode in Chandrasekharpur, 342 houses will be constructed in 1.49 acre land in Subudhhipur for rehabilitating slum dwellers. There will be 190 EWS houses proposed to be constructed in area of 0.73 acre in Jaydev Vihar Mouza and another 190 EWS houses will be constructed 1.01 acre at Jaydev Vihar under Chandrasekharpur Mouza in the state capital. The houses will be available at Rs 1.50 lakh for the beneficiaries, he added.
