Sambalpur, Apr 5:
Following two encounters between security forces and Maoists in the Gudguda forests under Meghapal panchayat in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, three more companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been rushed to the district on Friday.
Announcing this at a press briefing here, Sambalpur SP Pratik Mohanty said, following intelligence inputs that the Maoists are trying to strengthen their base in the Sambalpur-Sundargarh-Deogarh zone, a decision was taken to deploy more Central forces to flush them out.
“Since the Maoists are trying their best to disrupt the ensuing elections, combing operation has been intensified to foil their attempts”, he said, adding extra security measures have also been taken at the sensitive polling booths where there is a possibility of disruption by Maoists.
Mohanty also informed that a case has been registered against Maoist leader Junu Dehuri of Tamparsingha village and 47 others at the Jujumura police station for their involvement in Maoist activities.
