Aama Odisha awarded for blood donation for ninth year in row

Aama Odisha, the leading voluntary organization of Odisha was has been awarded as the best voluntary organisation in the state in the field of blood donation.

The organisation has been winning this award consecutively for the last nine years.

The award was received by Aama Odisha Secretary Swaraj Mishra and Editor of Paurusha Asit Mohanty from School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak at a function here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister urged the youth to donate bold voluntarily. While expressing his happiness over the state of blood donation in the state, Health Minister Nayak informed that the government will spend Rs 5 crores for modernisation of blood banks in the state.

Starting its campaign in 2006, Aama Odisha collected 9250 units of blood from 181 camps in the first year which increased to 515 camps with a collection of 27008 units in 2010. In 2011, Aama Odisha conducted camps in every single block of Odisha for the first time and collected 48061 units from 802 camps. In 2014, it collected 52452 units of blood from 1021 camps, which is a record.

The organisation has contributed more than 50 percent of the total blood collected in the state for the second year in a row last year.
