Bhubaneswar, Mar 1:
The Election Commission is all set to roll out a nationwide drive to purify electoral rolls by linking the Aadhaar number with electoral photo identity card (EPIC) database from Tuesday, Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha Dr Mona Sharma informed.
Voters can seed their Aadhaar number with their EPIC data online through national voters’ services portal (www.nvsp.in) or by filling up a form dedicated for the said service, Sharma told media persons here on Saturday evening.
It may be mentioned that the applicants would have to append photocopies of Aadhaar and photo identity card with the designated form.
Notably, the Aadhaar-EPIC linking project will enable de-duplication of electors database by weeding out the fraudulent (duplicate, bogus, ineligible and shifted) EPIC Card holders.
The Aadhaar enrolment agencies authorised by UIDAI would be asked to seed the EPIC data with the new fresh applications. Besides, action will be initiated against those who did not surrender multiple voter ID cards, she added.
Eligible citizens seeking new voter ID cards or correction in their cards, can avail fresh ones with 15 days of their application, sources said.
