As many as 4.08 lakh names have been deleted from the voters’ list after verification, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mona Sharma said here on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the National Voters’ Day to be observed on Friday, Sharma said an electorate of 2.89 crore electorate will participate in the coming elections in the state.
“While the state had 2.84 crore voters by 28 August last year, their number increased to 2.89 crore, including 1.50 crore male voters and 1.38 crore female voters, by 15 January this year. However, we have deleted about 4.08 lakh electorates from the voter list in the period,” the CEO said.
The CEO has so far issued 2.79 crore voter identity cards while it will provide voter I cards with colour photos in the coming days.
About 3.38 lakh voters, who have registered in the process, are in the age group of 18-19 years, said Sharma.
She said National Voters’ Day will be celebrated across the state while Governor SC Jamir will grace the occasion in the state capital.
Many new voters will be presented ID cards on the occasion, she said.
