Two ancient 400 year-old statues were stolen from the famous Lord Jagannath Temple in Madhupur Garh in Jajpur district of Odisha.
The incident came to light yesterday when the temple priest Sarat Chandra Mishra in the morning saw that the two precious statutes, each 2.5 feet tall were missing from the side temples of Lord Ganesh and Lord Varah from the royal temple.
Both the statues were more than four hundred years old.
Rani Aparna Bhir Singh reached the spot after Mishra informed her. The temple had been built in the 16th century by then King of Madhupur Garh, both the figurines had been brought from Rajasthan.
After a complaint was registered by the Rani in Jenapur police station, the police has launched an investigation with dog squad and scientific team.
