Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels to Odisha, athlete Jauna Murmu today won gold medal in women’s 400-meter hurdles event at the 57th National Open Athletics Championships in Chennai.

Murmu, representing ONGC in the meet, clinched the top prize by clocking a timing of 58.25 seconds. While Arpitha M of Railways finished at the second spot, Veerpal Kumar of Punjab grabbed the third position with timings of 59.97 seconds and 1.06 minutes, respectively.

It may be recalled here that Murmu had entered the final of women’s 400-meter hurdles at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar earlier this year and later found a place in the 25-member Indian athletics contingent for World Athletics Championships in London.
