Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Private Engineering College Association (OPECA) has sought permission from the Odisha government for not participating in JEE (Main), instead to conduct OJEE for admissions into B Tech first year from 2018.
The OPECA, in a letter to State Skill Development and Technical Education Department Secretary Sanjay Singh, has said that vacancy in the B Tech course is increasing alarmingly for the last eight years.
The vacancy has increased from 50 per cent to more than 75 per cent, a year after it joined JEE (Main), OPECA mentioned in the letter.
This has raised question over the sustainability of engineering colleges due to poor number of admissions, it added.
Worth mentioning, JEE (Main) does not open sufficient numbers of examination centres in the state during entrance exam for which many students are unable to appear the test.
