Arthroscopic Ankle Fusion surgery conducted in Odisha’s SCB hosp

Cuttack: A major Arthroscopic Ankle Fusion surgery was conducted successfully for the first time in SCB Medical College & Hospital here on Wednesday.

The patient, who was suffering from ankle arthritis, is stated to be in good condition following the operation performed at orthopedic department in SCB.

According to reports, tribal woman Jana Tiria (60) of Tilakothi village in Mayurbhanj district was suffering from pain in her ankle since a long time. Even after consuming medicines and undergoing treatment in many hospitals, she did not recover from the pain. Finally, she was admitted to orthopedic ward in SCB on August 10.

Following several medical tests, the doctors decided to conduct surgery through arthroscopic minimal invasive procedure. The surgery was conducted on right leg ankle of Tiria by a team of doctors led by Associate Professor Dr Atanu Mohanty.

During the surgery, the ankle of the patient was fused by camera and telescope after making two tiny needle-like holes. The patient could not feel pain like open surgery.

Apart from Dr Mohanty, the team of doctors also comprised of Dr Chandrasekhar Pradhan, Dr Ranjita Mohapatra, Dr Sushant Sena, Dr Aditya Mohapatra, Dr Nihar Ranjan Mishra, Dr Sarthak Sahoo and Dr Baban Kumar Ojha.
