Cuttack: In view of clashes and violence occurred in previous years during students’ union polls at the premises, the authorities of Odisha’s premier educational institution Ravenshaw University have decided to constitute students’ council abolishing the present electoral process.
“There will be no concept of students’ union polls in Ravenshaw University. Instead of it, a students’ council will be set up,” said Vice Chancellor Prakash Chandra Sarangi.
Addressing a press conference after chairing a meeting here today, Prof Sarangi said, “The student polls have been decentralised ensuring all the students of the varsity to participate in the election. All the departments of university have been divided into nine schools in the decentralised direct polls. The students’ representatives (nine conveners and nine deputy conveners) will be elected from nine schools”.
The students’ council will function through those elected representatives. The system of electing the president and general secretary in the students’ union polls has been abolished, he added.
