Odisha revenue collection up 15%

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has collected Rs 9,766 crore revenue from various sources by July end in the current fiscal year 2017-18 recording a 15 per cent growth against the corresponding period of last fiscal year, said an official on Wednesday.

The total revenue collection up to July 2016 was around Rs 8,492 crore, while the government collected around Rs 9,766 crore by July this fiscal year.

Own Tax revenue has grown by around 12 per cent with a total collection of Rs 7,552 crore and the non-tax revenue has grown by around 26 per cent with a total collection of Rs 2,214 crore, the official said.

The fiscal performances of the state till July 2017 was reviewed at the all secretaries’ meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here on Wednesday.

The review of fiscal performance revealed an overall increase of around 8 per cent in total budget utilisation up to July in the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of the last financial year.

Total expenditure up to July 2017 has been around Rs 26,921 crore against Rs 24,918 crore spent up to July 2016.

Expenditure in various programmes recorded an increase of around 23 per cent in comparison to the last year, said the official.

The programme expenditure up to July 2016 was around Rs 13,209 crore which increased to Rs 16,305 crore by the end of July 2017.

The expenditure in agriculture and allied sectors has been around Rs 4,327 crore thereby marking an increase of more than 22 per cent over the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

The expenditure in this sector mainly includes the programmes being executed under the departments of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Water Resources, Fisheries and Animal Resource Development and Cooperation.

Budget utilisation in the social sector has been to the tune of Rs 7,154 crore. Similarly, the budget utilisation in infrastructure building has been Rs 3,993 crore.(IANS)
