Cuttack: In a significant development, Odisha’s premier medical college and hospital SCB is going to start robotic surgery for the first time by December this year.

A blueprint has been prepared by the health department and tender process will begin soon. If everything will go within scheduled period, the robotic surgery can be started at SCB Medical College and Hospital by December, informed Urology Professor Dr. Dutteswar Hota.

With introduction of robotic surgery in the state-run SCB, Odisha will touch a new height in medical science in world.

Although, the state government had allocated Rs 12 crore for the robotic surgery at SCB, it is going to be implemented after over a year.

According to reports, the robotic surgery will start in Urology department of SCB. Currently, the facility is only available in AIIMS and few corporate and private hospitals.

There will be less bleeding from patient’s body if the surgery will be conducted through a robot. The treatment will be simple, affordable and convenient. The patient can be discharged from hospital just in two-three days after robotic surgery.

Notably, the surgery through robot is completely error free. The parts of body where doctor could not touch and operate, the robot can reach there and conduct error free surgery. The fingers of the robot are movable like a human upto 7 degree.

The robot will be operated by the chief surgeon far off the patient instead of standing near the bed. The robotic surgery is especially effective in major surgeries conducted in Urology, Cardiothoracic and Gynecology departments. The surgery is also effective for cancer patients.
