Bhawanipatna, May 18:

In a shocking incident, four siblings– three sisters and a brother– sustained burn injuries and were hospitalised as their brother-in-law allegedly set them on fire to seek revenge over a family dispute at Duarasuni village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Kalahandi district late last night.

According to reports, the incident took place when the four were sleeping inside their house. The wrongdoer torched the house by pouring petrol through the skylight.

Chandan Nayak, a minor boy who was sleeping on a bed, sustained grievous burn injuries while his three sisters, who were sleeping on floor, sustained minor injuries.

All of them have been admitted to Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital here. Condition of Chandan is stated to be critical.

“Our brother-in-law poured petrol on us through skylight, torched us and fled the spot,” Chandan said.

On the other hand, father of the victims has lodged a complaint with police.

“We had some dispute with our son-in-law Arun Nayak. He might have committed the act,” said Gangadhar Nayak, father of the victims.

“It appears that the incident was a fallout of family dispute. The exact reason can be ascertained only after investigation,” said SDPO Biranchi Dehury.
