While Angul recorded the day’s highest temperature of 42.7 degree Celsius in the state, mercury crossed 40 degree Celsius in many places especially in the western part of the state.

Jharsuguda, considered the industrial hub of western Odisha with 42.4 degrees Celsius ranked second, to be closely followed by Bolangir which recorded a maximum temperature of 42.2 degree Celsius, said a release issued by the Meteorological Centre here.

Similarly, Hirakud recorded a maximum temperature of 41.1 degree Celsius, Bhawanipatna and Sundargarh 41 degree Celsius to be followed by Talcher (40.5), Malkangiri (40.4) and Sambalpur (40.3), it added.

However, the state capital and its twin-Cuttack were comparatively cooler by recording maximum temperatures of 34.7 degree Celsius and 35 degree Celsius respectively, the release said.

The weatherman has, however, forecast rain/thundershowers at one or two places in the state till 0830 hrs on Sunday.
