A list issued by University Grant Commission (UCG) has identified 23 such dubious organizations across the country, among which two are from Odisha.

The fake universities of Odisha are – Nababharat Shiksha Parishad and North Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology.

The UGC has derecognized these universities for not conforming to the provisions of UGC Act, 1956.

The list of fake universities is as below:

Bihar: Maithili University/Vishwavidyalaya, Delhi: Commercial University Ltd, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR-Centric Juridical University, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, Viswakarma Open University for Self-Employment, Karnataka: Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Kerala: St. John’s University, Maharashtra: Raja Arabic University, West Bengal: Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Uttar Pradesh: Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Mahila Gram Vidyapith/Vishwavidyalaya, (Women’s University), Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University), Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Indraprastha Shiksha Parishad, Gurukul Vishwavidyala, Odisha: Nababharat Shiksha Parishad and North Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology.

The above list suggests Uttar Pradesh is the hub of fake universities. The educational degrees obtained from these institutions are as good as a tissue paper as they won’t be recognized for further higher studies.

Delhi follows Uttar Pradesh with six such varsities.

Besides, 279 fake technical institutions have been derecognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with Delhi topping the list with 66 such fake engineering and technical colleges.

Ahead of the new academic session beginning next month, the regulators have intimated the states to initiate appropriate action against the unapproved and unregulated institutes.
