Malkangiri, Feb 22:

Continuing their barbaric acts, Maoists abducted five persons in Odisha’s Malkangiri district last evening on suspicion of being police informers and thrashed them at praja court injuring the latter grievously.

The victims reached their homes this morning in a critical condition. On being informed, police admitted them to hospital for treatment.

According to reports, a group of Maoists kidnapped three villagers of Kumarpalli– Rama Kabati, Unga Kabati, Rama Madhi, Chaitanya Madhi– and Deba Madkami of Mahupadar village from their homes yesterday evening.

The extremists took them to Tulasi hill and produced the abductees before praja court.

Later, the red rebels thrashed the five alleging that they were providing information to police about Maoists.

The ultras then fled the spot leaving the villagers in an injured state.

“The Maoists are committing such acts as people are withdrawing their support from them. The Maoists will be combated in the area by launching a joint operation with Chhattisgarh,” said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
