The Vigilance sleuths have unearthed property worth over Rs 5 crore possessed by arrested IAS officer Dr Partha Sarathi Mishra during its ongoing investigation into graft charges, official sources said today.

The sleuths of the anti-corruption wing have been conducting simultaneous searches at the residence and official quarters of Mishra.

“Preliminary result of the search shows that Dr Partha Sarathi Mishra is in possession of huge amount of movable and immovable properties. The voluminous documents seized are under verification. It transpires from articles seized during the search that Mishra appears to be leading a luxurious life beyond his means,” a Vigilance official said.

Till now, three massive buildings – one each at Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack whose value runs into over Rs 2.5 crore have been identified. Verification of immovable properties, bank accounts are under process, he added.

It may be mentioned here that travel documents were found from the possession of the bureaucrat which showed that Mishra travelled frequently to USA, UK, Canada, Netherlands and other countries.

Besides, imported perfumes, high-value wrist watches, costly apparels, among other things have also been traced from his houses.

The officer was arrested yesterday in Cuttack after rounds of interrogation since Wednesday evening.

The 2006-cadre officer, serving as Managing Director of Orissa Small Industries Corporation Ltd, was apprehended by Vigilance sleuths near his office for carrying huge cash in his car. The officer was intercepted by Vigilance officials of Cuttack Division while he was proceeding from his office towards residential quarters in the official car at around 6.40 pm.

Upon interception, a sum of Rs 2, 14, 750 was found from the possession of Dr Partha Sarathi Mishra in the car in a closed cover.

The Vigilance department had received complaints of Mishra collecting huge amount of illegal money from various persons. Based on the complaints, a laid was trapped to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.
