A five-member team of Odisha Crime Branch Left Wing Extremism (LWE) wing — led by a DSP rank officer — today visited Pottangi police station in Koraput district and examined materials recovered from Sunki landmine blast site.
According to Koraput Additional SP VR Rao, the Crime Branch team — along with a three-member team of forensic experts– today held talks with police station officials in connection with the incident and examined the materials recovered from the spot.
The joint team will carry out a field investigation at the blast site tomorrow.
“The team arrived here yesterday. Today they visited Pottangi police station and examined the articles seized from the scene. The Scientific team from the state office is also here. They are conducting the investigation from all possible angles and will report their observation (to the authorities),” said Rao speaking to reporters today.
The team has been tasked with investigating the organisation involved with the blast, the circumstances that led to the incident, any possible violation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), kind of explosive used in the incident among others.
Notably, eight policemen died and five others were injured in the landmine blast in Sunki ghat on February 1 while 13 assistant drivers and driver havildar were travelling in a police vehicle towards Angul to attend a training programme.
