New Delhi, Feb 1:

Odisha has got an allocation of Rs 5,102 crore for development of railways in the annual Union Budget 2017-18, according to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources.

This year’s allocation is roughly 9% more in comparison to last year’s allocation which was Rs 4,682 crore.

A total of Rs 1, 31,000 crore has been allocated for railways in this year’s annual Union Budget of which Odisha’s  share stands at 3.89%.

In the current year, Railways Budget has been merged with the annual Union Budget.

It may be noted here that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a letter to Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu had sought an allocation of Rs 5,870 for railways in the state. The allocation for the state which stands at Rs 5,102 crore is exactly Rs 768 crore short of Patnaik’s demand which is approximately 13% less.
