Bhawanipatna, Jan 20:
A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) probing the alleged torching to death of a minor girl in Madhupur village under Narla police limits arrived here today and held discussions with the officials of the district administration.
The NHRC team comprising of Special Rapporteur and Special State Coordinator held a meeting with the district administration officials in the presence of the District Collector.
The team later left for Madhupur, the deceased minor’s village to make an on-spot-assessment of the atrocious incident.
Notably, a girl of Madhupur village was allegedly set on fire by one Bulu Das and a minor boy on January 11 evening after they failed to gang rape her.
The two had earlier passed vulgar comments at the girl following which she had told the incident to her family members. The girl’s mother had cautioned the two youths for their act.
Getting furious over the incident, the duo allegedly torched the girl at her house in the absence of her parents.
The victim who was shifted to IGH in Rourkela for treatment succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.
Both the attackers Bulu Das and the minor boy have been arrested by the police. The case has been red-flagged and is being investigated by the Crime Branch. The Crime Branch has taken the assailants on a five-day remand for further interrogation.
