Bhubaneswar, Jan 20:

Waking up to the need for stricter cyber security after hacking of OUAT and Ganjam RTO test websites, the Odisha government has issued compulsory guidelines to all its departments and agencies stop such acts.

The Electronics and IT department of the State government has released an advisory to all government agencies and departments to strictly follow guidelines to prevent cyber crimes like hacking.

The advisory puts emphasis on security of websites by following key guidelines like verification of the credentials of web developers, hosting and registering official government websites only on gov.in and nic.in domain extensions.
“We have framed uniform guidelines to curb hacking of websites. The main aim of the guidelines is that while preparing government websites all the departments use the Government of India domains/servers – nic.in, gov.in. We are not discouraging anyone from creating their websites, but proper security aspects should be kept in mind. We need to be careful about the web designers and also where the website will be hosted,”said Principal secretary Electronics & IT Pradeep Kumar Jena.
