Further, the cops are also investigating the sexual harassment charges wherein the girl students yesterday claimed that they were sent to a Hyderabad based hotel for job, where they were being sexually exploited.

Earlier in the day, the Kharavela Nagar police had called him and the students of AHHA for questioning at 10 AM today and during grilling discovered that the institute doesn’t have necessary affiliations to offer the courses. Routray was subsequently arrested on charges of fraud.

Besides, the Commissionerate Police will take action against the students involved in ransacking the institute, said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi. He also stated that a team of police will visit Hyderabad to investigate the matter further, if required.

Notably, the students of AHHA near Ram Mandir square of Odisha capital yesterday went on a rampage in the institute alleging that the institute is not providing jobs as committed, withholding their certificates and girl students are being sexually harassed.

Mostly led by girls, about a dozen students heckled the director of the institute and other staff members including the female staff members. Such was the fury of the students that they broke the door and dragged out a female staff who had locked herself inside a washroom. Besides, damage to the furniture and educational infrastructure was extensive.

Tension was kept under check after the cops reached the scene. However, both sides lodged FIRs against each other in Kharavela Nagar police station following the incident later in the day. While the students had alleged fraud and sexual harassment in their complaint, the institute authorities had cited the violence, damage to property and conspiracy to damage the reputation of the institute in theirs.
