The commissioner of Land Records and Settlement served notices to Das and others while conducting a hearing on a complaint of alleged usurp of forest land. The next date of hearing in the matter has fixed for November 20.

As per reports this 88 acres of ‘jungle kissam’ land is located in Salijanga mouza in Dangadi tehsil in Jajpur district. However, earlier during settlement, the said land was recorded in the name of Das and his brothers.

On the matter coming to notice, Dangadi tehsildar and Jajpur collector lodged complaints with the commissioner of Land Records and Settlement to get the said land back into government records.

It has been alleged that during hal (current) settlement, the said land was recorded in the names of Bidu Bhusan Das, Chandi Charan Das, Rabi Narayan Das and others sons of late Durga Charan Das using hata patta (hand written patta). Later allegedly the land has been sold to different persons. The commissioner has servednotices to all parties.

It is worthwhile to mention here that patta or record of rights (RoR) is a legal document issued by the government to the actual owner of a particular plot of land.
