Shahi Exports Private Ltd (SEPL), one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of ready-to-wear garments in India, will provide direct employment to about 2500 people in its apparel manufacturing unit at its Mancheswar Industrial Estate here.

The foundation stone for the proposed unit was laid by chief minister Naveen Patnaik today.

Stating that the state government has given top priority to the textile industries as it generates more employment, the chief minister said plans are afoot to set up two integrated textile parks at Choudwar and Bhadrak.

Expressing hope that the efforts of the Shahi Exports to set up an export-oriented apparel unit in the state will encourage others to invest in the state, Patnaik said the new industrial policy will have provisions to encourage investments in the textiles and handlooms sectors.

The new unit of the Bengaluru-based company will come up at a cost of Rs 36 crore within a year with an annual production of over three lakh garments.

The company at present has 48 production units in the country with about one lakh employees.
