Odisha CM pats OUAT for record fellowship award

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today praised the Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) for bagging the national award in terms of a record number of fellowship awarded to its students.

ouat functionOUAT vice chancellor Prof Manoranjan Kar, who arrived here from New Delhi after receiving the award from prime minister Narendra Modi on July 29, met chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here today and apprised him of the performance of the university students.

Praising the students, the chief minister said they had done the state proud.

“The OUAT and its students have played a vital role in the development of agriculture in Odisha”, Patnaik said.

Among others, Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development minister Pradip Maharathy was present on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that 37 students of OUAT had been awarded fellowship after successfully clearing this year’s all India entrance test conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) which was the highest among the 60 agriculture universities and 700 agriculture colleges in the country.

In recognition of the sterling performances of the OUAT students, ICAR has awarded Junior Research Fellowship (JTF) award to the university.

Apart from this, ICAR has also announced a special grant for OUAT under which it will also provide Rs 2 lakh to each student qualifying for fellowship, Rs 8000 to each student as fellowship money and Rs 6000 to each fellowship holder as contingency fund.
