Heavy rains lash Odisha, Koraput records season’s highest rainfall

Normal life was thrown out of gear in Odisha’s Koraput district today as the district headquarters recorded 1103 mm rainfall, the highest recorded this year, under the influence of the low pressure over the Bay.

A release by the local Met office here this evening said apart from Koraput, there was heavy rainfall over a number of south and coastal Odisha districts in the last 24 hours (till 5.30 pm this evening).

Bhawanipatna recorded 206 mm rainfall, followed by Bolangir (108), Puri (103.8), Sonepur (66.6), Malkangiri (65.2), Baripada (29), Daringbadi (28 mm), Hirakud (20.1), Sambalpur (20), Gopalpur (12.9), Bhubaneswar (12.9) and Chandbali (12.8).

The Met release has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts in coastal and south Odisha districts and extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of interior districts in the next 72 hours, till July 31.

There would be no significant change in the weather system after July 31 as the state will have more rainfall after August 1, it added.
