Rourkela, Dec 16:
As many as 38,295 students would receive their degree for the academic session 2011-12 and 2012-13 during the 6th Convocation of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) to be held on December 18 at the Civic Centre here, university sources said.
In a press meet organised at BPUT headquarters here on Monday, the Registrar of BPUT Dr MR Nayak informed that the Chancellor of the university and Governor of Odisha SC Jamir will preside over the function while All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Prof SS Mantha will deliver the convocation address as chief guest.
Eight Ph.D students will receive their degree while 17 students will be receiving gold medals in different categories. Three gold medals named after Arjun Bhuyan, Dillip Kumar Santra and Bhubanananda Das will be given to toppers in B.Tech, B.Pharm and M.Tech programs respectively.
The BPUT authorities have decided to disburse the Students Welfare Fund through Direct Cash Transfer instead of earlier method, informed Dr. Nayak.
Besides, to cater to various kinds of students’ grievances, the BPUT has put in place a new system with technical support from NIC, Bhubaneswar. This system, named Chhatra Abhijog, would be implemented soon, he said. Under the new system a student who is doing or has done any course at BPUT – has to log on and register his or her grievances for due redressal.
