Residents of Sanshakuda slum in Paradeep, Odisha are a worried lot after sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA) disease has claimed 20 bovine lives and infected 50 more here.
Panic has spread over the Sanshakuda slum area of Paradeep which houses around 5000 bovine livestock after the bovine deaths.
Blood samples of the infected and dead cows have shown the presence of sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA) disease among the bovine livestock, said nodal officer Shashank Shekhar Lenka, Jagatsinghpur district veterinary office.
While the cowherds have accused the veterinary department of neglecting the disease and not providing them with any medicines.
The veterinary officer has said that there is no cure for the disease and the only way to prevent its spread is by keeping the environment clean as its carrying agent are houseflies.
