In a major development, 56 Maoists surrendered before Chhattisgarh police of which 17 hail from Mathili area in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, police sources said today.
According to reports, 17 ultras from Odisha surrendered before Bastar IG in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
On the other hand, at least 19 Maoist supporters also surrendered before Malkangiri Superintendent of Police today.
The villagers surrendered before the police at the district headquarters office in the presence of Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
Notably, around 265 Maoist sympathisers have surrendered before the Malkangiri police in the last seven days. The recent spate of surrenders is seen as a major blow to the Maoist movement in the district which is considered as a hotbed of the ultras.
