Informing this in the State Assembly on Thursday, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises minister Jogendra Behera said these small industries have been closed down due to fall in market demand, paucity of working capital, problems in the sale of products, faulty management, inadequate power supply, labour problem, short supply of raw materials and failure in the upgradation of tehnology.
The minister, while replying to a question by BJD member Priti Ranjan Ghadai, said as per the statistics of the MSME department, of the total closed down industries, Cuttack district tops the list with 2402 industries followed by Rourkela (1565), Bhubaneswar (1504) and Ganjan (1061). Due to the closure, 20,285 people in Cuttack district, 12,777 in Rourkela, 14,191 in Bhubaneswar and 9594 people in Ganjam district have lost their jobs, the minister added.
